I'm fairly certain their is only one narrator for the english version.
But just in case, definitely get the Nick Podehl narration. It's amazing and Pat worked with Nick to get all the pronunciations and accents just how he wanted them to sound.
Personally I borrowed the Library version from my local library, worked great.

Rupert Degas version wins. Easily.
I started with the Nick Podehl version, and struggled to get past the young sound of his voice. Seriously.. and this is not to discredit him at all for his narration, but his American accent drove me nuts.(and I'm American!)
Especially when Kvothe was among the other orphans.. Oh my gosh, it was bad. Honestly, It made me cringe. I nearly stopped listening to the book altogether because of his voice at that point.
Frustrated, I didn't know if I was going to even attempt finishing the book.
I switched to the Degas version hoping to find something that immersed me in the book instead of the narrator and finally found serenity. Degas' voice sounded more like an adult to me, and was entirely more soothing. I didn't have to even think about the narrator's voice at that point, and could finally focus on the story.
I'm so glad I tried out the Degas version, because if not, I would have lost the opportunity to listen to a very good book.

I agree with Wolframs summary.. most of it anyway. Maybe because i heard the Nick Podehl version first but i have to say, I prefer Nicks interpretation way way more (with the exception of his pronunciation of the word 'Roof', it just greats on my English ears ;P ). Rupert Degas does indeed provide 'a more serious and intense' performance but while this book deals with dark and dramatic subjects, Nicks light hearted narration and seems to fit the story better. and i love the way he portrays each character.

Hey All!
I'm in the USA and I cannot stand Nick Podel's performance (not sure who he slept with to land that gig, but the guy's NOT a professional, esp. up against folks like Jim Dale, and Roy Dotrice).
In any case, I desperately want to experience Rupert Degas' version, but I'm in the USA, but I cannot access it, as it appears only to be available to Audible.UK and Audible.UK members.
Can anyone help?

I thoroughly enjoy the one you can get on audible. It's narrated by Nick Podehl.

So maybe I'm crazy, but listening to the American Audiobook I would put some money on the audio book being slightly abridged which is super annoying.
[tiny plot details details below]
Nothing about him buying shoes, or signing up with the caravan when leaving the city. Am I crazy? This is the MP3 CD version that claims to be unabridged on the front. But I'm looking at the book in front of me and see that part which I sure didn't hear. Possibly something weird with ordering of MP3 tracks, but seems very unlikely.

I did not enjoy Podehl’s narration. Kvothe already has kind of an arrogance to him and I thought Podehl’s narration put that aspect over the top and make the character unlikable

I prefer Nick Podehl's narration mostly because Degas' makes kvothe sound.. old. And since even Kote is 'no older than twenty-six' the maturity of Degas' narration grates on me. Podehl has a unique voice, to be sure, but I feel like his accents, different voices for characters, and the tone he has matches well with Kvothe, and Kote.

There are two English language editions, I've listened to both and prefer the British version.
I think Nick Podehl is a fine narrator, but his style doesn't match the the book in my opinion. He reads in a tone that makes me feel is directed toward a younger audience. Both narrators add something unique to the interpretation, but Rupert Degas gives a more serious and intense read that the book deserves, and it's just awesome to hear the story in a British accent.
You can get it from Rothfuss' Tinker Packs, with all sales going to his charity:

Thank you everyone for your comments on the audiobook - I would love to listen to the British version, but I'm not sure how to get it since I'm in the US! If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know! Thanks~

I read the book and loved it. Just listened to a couple of minutes of the Nick Podehl version and had to stop. Does it get better? The way does a forced enunciation on every word, there's no flow at all, I can't stand it, I came straight to the internet to see if I was alone

I am completely opposite to Alex. I found Podehl's narration infuriating, the whole narration sounded fake until his accents, they were quite good. Maybe fake is the wrong word, but it was cheesy and did not draw me in at all. I did like some of his accents however. Kvothe's voice in Podehl's version is my biggest thumbs down, it sounded like someone trying to give a delicate elves voice which just does not suit the book compared with Degas rough weary voice of someone who has travelled thousands of miles, drew me into the story effortlessly. I think Degas version was far superior in every aspect bar the Adem accent, with this in consideration, Degas accents are also far more diverse/recognisable in my opinion.

I stumbled upon this page because I'm googling 'audio book as good as Name of the wind Rupert degas'.
I'm currently on my 6th listen and I just cant find anything close to this good.
His voice is really easy to listen to. His characters and accents are utterly fantastic.
Without doubt my favourite audio book by far.

Sorry it's a late reply but this may help.

Don't know if it's legal but you're still payin for the audiobook so don't see any problem. Anyway if there are different versions you should be able to choose which one you want.
